A Place Called Home

This project was one of the first projects set on the University course.

The project was an introduction to Architectural Design and Technology. The brief was to design a house in the local area and was based on a live project near the River Itchen. This project ran alongside an introduction to Auto CAD unit which aided the proccesses when it came to drawing the designs.

Section AA

This project involved:

  • Site Analysis - including a site visit

  • Initial and developed designs

  • Finalised design drawn up on Auto CAD

  • Sections and details showing the construction of the house

  • 3D model produced in Sketchup

A detailed accommodation schedule was provided in the brief from which the floor plans were developed. Once the designs were drawn on Auto CAD key junctions were selected to detail and the 3D model was produced in Sketchup.

This project taught me the stages and processes involved in architectural design, developing new skills to take forward in my studies and career. Some of the key skills developed through this project are:

  • Knowledge and understanding of designing and detailing.

  • A better understanding of Auto CAD software.

  • Better knowledge of  types of drawings required for residential projects.

  • Production of high quality drawings detailing design aspects for residential new build projects.
